Clover Sonoma

The lineage runs to 1916 and the Petaluma Cooperative Creamery; Clover Stornetta Farms formed in 1977. The company rejected rBST in 1994 — before the market asked — added organic in 1999, and in 2000 became the first dairy in the United States certified by American Humane for animal welfare. ¹

A B Corporation for eight years: certified 2016 at 96.9, recertified 2020 at 100.5, currently published at 92.7 against an 80-point bar and a 50.9 median. The certification standard tightened over those cycles; the score moved with it and stayed well clear of the line. ^{4 6}

In April 2024 Clover joined the EDF-led Dairy Methane Action Alliance alongside Starbucks, and published a Dairy Methane Action Plan: methane intensity down 10% by 2027 and 30% by 2035 from a 2023 baseline, with methane named as roughly 40% of total Scope 3. The packaging record is early-mover: the first fully renewable milk carton in the US in 2020, with a plant-based liner and a 16% smaller carbon footprint. The 2024 report counts 228,050 pounds of plastic removed — lightweighted jugs, deleted fitment caps, and 30% post-consumer resin across 2.1 million organic gallon jugs. ^{6 4}
